MILLINOCKET – Carmen “Carmie” Brigalli, 80, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born April 29, 1923, in Millinocket, the son of Bernardino and Annie (Ranaldi) Brigalli. He was a lifelong resident of Millinocket, where he graduated from Stearns High School in 1941. Following graduation he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he served his country during World War II, as a tail gunner on a B-24. Carmie was missing in action after his plane was shot down over Austria. He was a decorated World War II veteran having received the Purple Heart and several other citations for exemplary service to his country. After the war, Carmie returned home, where he began his working career at Great Northern Paper Co. He worked at the Yard Department and was very active as president of the Pulp and Sulfite Union, retiring as a foreman with the company. Carmie was diligent with projects in both Little Italy and the town of Millinocket. He was instrumental in starting the first playground in Little Italy, started the first Little League in Millinocket, and headed a task force to erect a Veteran’s Memorial in the town park. He was a member of the Millinocket Democratic Committee, was head of Little Italy Heritage Committee, member of Francis E. Elliott Post No. 4154 VFW, and member of Meals for Me. He was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church and a 58-year member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 680. Carmie is survived by four sisters, Angelina Brigalli of Boston, Mass., Mary Hannon of Brighton, Mass., Phyllis Doyle of Millinocket, Olga DiBona of Andover, Mass.; two brothers, Anthony Brigalli of Fairborn, Ohio, Daniel Brigalli of Millinocket; and several nieces and nephews. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where the Knights of Columbus will conduct a prayer service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church.
