VAN BUREN – Carmen M. Martin, 86, died Feb. 28, 2006, at a Van Buren healthcare facility, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born Feb. 25, 1920, in St. David, the daughter of Joseph and Flavie (Michaud) Cyr. Carmen was an energetic woman who loved to spend time with her family and friends. A devout Catholic all her life, she was involved in many parish activities including the church choir and many fund-raisers, especially the former St. Remi Parish, Keegan. She was a member of the Van Buren Columbiettes Council 1635. She was a dedicated Avon sales representative for many years in the Van Buren area. Carmen was employed at Viner Shoe Company, Presque Isle for a short time and retired as laundry supervisor at Van Buren Community Hospital after 17 years of service. Following her retirement, she enjoyed cooking for her family and volunteering in the community. She will be remembered by everyone she touched in her life. Carmen is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Ludger Martin of Van Buren; two daughters, Velma Belanger and her husband, Larry, of Plainville, Conn. and Sharon Pelletier and her husband, Ron, of Merrimac, N.H.; three sons, Raymond “Pepper” Martin and his wife, Lydia, of Van Buren, Eugene Martin of Plainville, Conn. and Michael “Mickey” Martin and his wife, Nell, of Litchfield; one brother, Ned Cyr and his wife, Mona, of Presque Isle; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by two very special friends, Lucille and Rose Martin. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by eight siblings. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until time of service Friday, at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery.
