BAR HARBOR – Carmine Lavano, 86, died July 19, 2004, at MDI Hospital. He was born Feb. 1, 1918, in Elizabeth, N.J., the son of Antonio and Mela (Castardo) Lavano. Carmine owned and operated a night club in Elizabeth, N.J., where he enjoyed big band music, then became a car salesman for a Lincoln-Mercury dealer in Plainfield, N.J., until he retired. His outstanding personality and charismatic ways always brought excitement and laughter to any event or gathering. His persistence on living a long, fulfilled life earned him respect and love from his family and friends. He married Carol Ann (McArthur) July 1976, and they made their life together until her passing Dec. 23, 2001. Carmine enjoyed visiting with the local people and tourist of the Bar Harbor area. He also enjoyed watching the cooking channel and cooking good food. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Yankee’s and watching NFL football with his family. Carmine enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by a stepson, George McArthur and wife, Laurie, of Willlington, Del.; one stepdaughter, Karen Moore and husband, Greg, of Bar Harbor; four grandchildren, Ryan and Katelyn Moore, and Christopher and Jessica McArthur. Friends are invited to visit 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor, where funeral services will be held 7 p.m. with the Rev. Charlene Alling officiating.
