LUBEC – Carroll LeRoy Mealey, 73, died July 14, 2005, at his home following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Carroll was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Eastport, son of the late Joseph and Hilda (Clark) Mealey. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, being Honorably Discharged May 6, 1954. Carroll worked at Cutler Navy Base for a brief time, then was employed for the United States Post Office in Lubec for 30 years, retiring in 1985 as Postmaster. He was a member of Parkinson-Vose Post No. 3315 VFW and the Stuart-Greene Post No. 65 American Legion, both in Lubec, the N.R.A., a past member of Calais Rod & Gun Club, and a communicant of Sacred Heart R. C. Church in Lubec. Carroll was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening, hunting, and bowling. Surviving are the love of his life and wife, Gertrude (Lund) Mealey of 44 years; a sister, Sue (Mealey) Leighton and husband, Karl, of Harrington; stepson, Julian Fickett of Lubec; stepdaughter, Sandra Munson of Kenduskeag; nephew, Mark Leighton of Harrington; grandson, Loring Munson Jr. and wife, Sherry, of Lubec; granddaughters, Rowena Elliott and husband, Calvin, of Corinth and Shana Munson of Kenduskeag; great-grandchildren, Tabitha, Victoria, and Esther Munson of Lubec, Yolanda, Nick, Abby and Allie Elliott of Corinth, Christopher and Harriet Munson of Kenduskeag; great-great-granddaughter, Lauren Munson of Lubec. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Lubec, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, with The Very Rev. Mark Nolette. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carroll’s memory can be made to American Cancer Society, One Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086, or to Sacred Heart R.C.
