MESQUITE, Texas – Carter Frederick O’Neill, 59, passed away Jan. 28, 2008, at his home. He was born Sept. 15 1948, in Lincoln, the son of Harry and Merle (Giffard) O’Neill. Carter attended school in Lincoln and East Millinocket, and graduated with the class of 66 from Schenk High School. He also attended Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and later graduated from MEBA Calhoon Engineering School, Baltimore, as a marine engineer. After several years, working with Lykes Shipping Lines, he relocated to Garland, Texas, where he opened the Carter O’Neill Plumbing business. Carter taught school at Lakeview Centennial High School, Garland, Texas, for seven years, after which, he returned to the plumbing business where he remained until he was stricken with cancer and forced to retire in June 2007. Carter was an avid musician and was known for his singing and guitar playing. He played with many bands throughout the Dallas area, until a few weeks before his death. Carter was a member of Halla Temple Masonic Lodge of Garland, Texas. In addition to his parents that reside in Zephyrhills, Fla., and their cottage in Lincoln, he is survived by his wife, Diane (Massey) O’Neill of Mesquite, Texas; daughter, Jamie O’Neill of Lubbock, Texas; a stepdaughter, Heather Turner and husband, Chuck, of Mesquite, Texas; two brothers, Daniel O’Neill and wife, Roberta, of Oxford, and Lee O’Neill and wife, Michelle, of Rowlette, Texas; two nephews, Colin and Degham O’Neill of Oxford; one aunt, Frances Bowker of Santa Clarita, Calif.; and several cousins. Services were held Wed-nesday, Jan. 30, at Tomlinson Funeral Home, Kemp and Seven Points, Texas. A memorial service will be held during the summer at the O’Neill cottage in Lincoln, at a date to be announced.
