DENNYSVILLE – Cecil Leighton Jones, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 13, 2004, at the home of his daughter in Waterbury, Vt. He was born April 14, 1920, in Dennysville, the son of the late Plummer A. and Ruth (Leighton) Jones. On March 9, 1940, he married the former Virginia Phinney. Mrs. Jones passed away on March 9, 2001. Mr. Jones was a 1938 graduate of Dennysville High School. Enlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre. Following his discharge, he went to work for Lane Construction Co. as a heavy equipment mechanic, retiring in 1982, following 33 years of service. Mr. Jones found great enjoyment in tinkering on mechanical equipment of all sorts and working on home repair projects. An avid horseman, he owned and cared for draft horses following his retirement. Survivors include his two daughters, Diane Severance and her husband, Leland, of Waterbury, Vt., and Jean Lamarre of Milford, N.H.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Lewis and Roberta Picard, both of Springvale; two brothers, Laurence Jones of North Adams, Mass., and Charles Jones of Bangor; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004, at the Dennysville United Church of Christ. There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow services in the Dennysville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641. Arrangements are in the care of the Flagg Funeral Home, Eastport.
