MADAWASKA – Cecile Martin, 96, a former resident of St. Thomas St., passed away Monday evening, Oct. 17, 2005, at Evergreen Manor in Saco. She was born July 15, 1909, in Frenchville, a daughter of Dennis and Jane Sirois Guerette. One year later the family moved to Eagle Lake where they resided for 10 years. Returning to Frenchville, Cecil graduated valedictorian of her class in 1927 from St. Agatha Covent. She also attended Normal School in Presque Isle. Cecile taught grades 1-8 in a one-room classroom in Madawaska for 12 years. On Aug. 8, 1939, she married her husband, Leonard Martin in St. Luce. Mrs. Martin was a home-maker who loved to spend time with her family. They enjoyed family trips to Old Orchard Beach for many years. She played the piano as a child and later enjoyed listening to classical music. Her love of music was passed on to many of her family members. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Martin Oct. 17, 1973; her brother, Adrian Nadeau and one granddaughter, Mary Martin-Crum. She is survived by two sons, Guy Martin and his wife, Frances, of Saco, Lionel Martin and his wife, Doris, of Greenfield, Mass.; one daughter, Jeanne Rydberg and her husband, Kenneth, of Fairbanks, Alaska; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held 3-5 p.m. Friday from Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at St. Thomas Aquinas, Madawaska. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery in Madawaska. Local arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.
