HOULTON – Charlene Benn, 74, wife of the late Gordon L. Benn, died on May 15, 2004, in Bangor, with her family by her side. She was born on Oct. 24, 1929, at Stockholm, the daughter of Charles W. and Hulda C. (Lund) Anderson She attended public school in Stockholm, and graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in Houlton, Class of 1947. Upon completion of a year at Ricker Junior College she accepted a position with the Aroostook County Commerce until her marriage in 1950. Later she was employed by the Sperry and Hutchinson Co., then at the Maine District Court in Houlton, retiring in 1989. She enjoyed nature, picnics, camping, and driving through the woods roads and in winter, snowmobiling, and crossing country skiing. She was an active member of the Portia Rebeka Lodge for more than 50 years, a member of the Baptist Church of Stockholm prior to her marriage, a member of the Houlton United Methodist Church, the UMW and several committees at the church. Charlene is survived by one son, Rodney and his wife, Heidi Benn, of Cape Elizabeth; and one daughter, Janice and her husband, Michael McCluskey, of Smyrna; five grandchildren, Michael, and Jessica Benn, Matthew, Tyler and Andrew McCluskey. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Gordon; and an infant son. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the Houlton United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mary Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
