TOPSHAM – Charles Ellis Waterman died March 30, 2005 at 5:30 p.m. in Topsham. He suffered for many years with Multisystems Atrophy. His wife and family were by his side. He was born May 31, 1925, in Auburn. He attended the Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School. He was a self-employed farmer being the fifth generation farmer of Elm Farm on Waterman Road in Auburn. Later he became self employed in construction. He served two years in the U.S. Navy post World War II from 1945-1947. He was a member of the House of Representatives for the State of Maine from 1960-1964 serving two terms. He was a member of East Auburn Baptist Church for many years. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher as well as many other roles. He donated his time in the construction of the present Church on Church Street in East Auburn. His tractor was his biggest hobby. He is survived by his wife, Bev M. Waterman of Topsham where they resided together for 10 years. They were married April 18, 1995. He leaves two sisters, Fay Allin of Lancaster, N.H., and Marion W. Meyer of Syracuse, N.Y.; three children, Claudia Mackillop and husband, Paul, of Sumner; DianaLee Waterman (Goding) of Travelers Rest, S.C.; and Leonard Waterman and wife, Barbara, of Inman, S.C.; he also leaves six stepchildren, John Glynn and wife, Carol, of Lisbon, Jill Turner and husband, Scott, of Brunswick, Jamey Glynn and wife, Cindy, of Bowdoin, Janine Bessey and husband, Dallas, of Topsham, Jo-Ellyn Sturgeon and husband, Al, of Brunswick, Jim Merryman and wife, Sara, of South Harpswell. Charles was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia M. Waterman from 1947-1991. Funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the East Auburn Baptist Church with reception following at the fellowship hall.
