PITTSFIELD – Charles F. DeBeck, 78, died July 1, 2005, at a Bangor hospital, following a short period of ill health. He was born Feb. 23, 1927, in Newport, the son of George and Clara (Grose) DeBeck. He attended Newport Schools and Newport High School leaving in his junior year to join the Navy during World War II. He was a Navy veteran, serving on the ship USS Fort Marion LSD 22 for several years. Following his discharge from active duty, he served with the Navy Reserves for eight more years. When he returned home from the Navy, he completed his education by graduating from M.C.I. in Pittsfield. “Charlie” married Gloria Hart May 21, 1954, in Corinna. He worked for most of his life as a heavy equipment mechanic for various construction companies including H. E. Sargent Inc. in Stillwater and Cianbro Corporation in Pittsfield. “Charlie” was very active in the Boy Scouts of American Troop 428 in Pittsfield as a troop leader all the time his sons were growing up. He has always been very interested in sports and nature and that continued throughout his life. He was a 50-year member of Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge No. 49 in Newport where he was a three time past master. He was a 50-year member of Stevens Royal Arch Chapter No. 28 in Newport, where he was High Priest six times. He was a 50-year member of St John’s Commandery No. 3 of Bangor and a 50-year member of Anah Shrine in Bangor. Charlie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gloria A. DeBeck of Pittsfield; two daughters, Dawna Brasier of Dexter, Marlisa and her husband, Christopher Noonan, of Pittsfield; two sons, Steven DeBeck of Pittsfield, Gregory DeBeck of Penobscot; one sister and her husband, Frances and Sidney Cookson of Newport; a sister-in-law, Virene DeBeck of Skowhegan; 10 grandchildren, Tina, Andy, Wendell, Joe, Meghan, Courtney, Brandi, Amber, Patrick, and Aaron; four great-grandchildren, Erica, Jaycee, Benjamin, and Zachary; several nieces and nephews. His brother, Albert “Ike” DeBeck, predeceased him. Friends may call 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at the Brown Funeral Home, 34 High St., Newport. Masonic services will be conducted by the officers and members of Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at the Brown Funeral Home, with Pastor Al Worden officiating. Burial will be in the Pittsfield Village Cemetery.
