HOLIDAY, Fla., and DOVER-FOXCROFT – Charles M. Mitchell Jr., 87, husband of Bertha (Tibbetts) Mitchell, passed away May 30, 2008, in Holiday, Fla. He was born Sept. 8, 1920, the son of Charles and Emma (Merrill) Mitchell of Blanchard. He spent his early years attending Blanchard Elementary School. He graduated from Monson Academy and Bangor School of Commerce. He was a World War II veteran, having served more than three years with the U.S. Army Air Force, 30 months of this duty was served overseas in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. In September 1946, he married Bertha Tibbetts, daughter of Frank and Martha (Thayer) Tibbetts of Dover-Foxcroft. He was a resident of Dover-Foxcroft for more than 30 years and was employed as a company clerk and bookkeeper for several local companies. In 1981 he retired from Moosehead Manufacturing Co., Dover-Foxcroft plant, where he worked as supervisor of the assembly and finish room. Soon after retirement he moved to Hawaii, where he lived for 13 years, before moving to Florida in 1994. He enjoyed traveling and recreational activities. He is survived by his wife, Bertha of Holiday, Fla.; a son, Larry and his wife, Jane, of Lawton, Okla.; a granddaughter, Dr. Renae Freid; great- granddaughter, Emily of West Newberry, Mass.; a son, Robert and his wife, Angelia, of Levant; a son, David and his wife, Wanda, of Bangor; a granddaughter, Jillian; a grandson, Michael, both of Glenburn; a daughter, Linda and longtime companion, John Carter, of Framingham, Mass.; and several cousins. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the new Blanchard Cemetery, Blanchard, with Pastor David Mumford officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home.
