MACDONALD BANGOR – Charles Wallace MacDonald, 86, passed away on May 16, 2004, at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor, where he had resided for two months. Born in Trenton, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Leonard MacDonald and Victoria (MacLellan) MacDonald. He worked for more than 40 years at the former Oxford Paper Co./Ethyl Corporation in Rumford. He was a graduate of Stephen’s High School in Rumford, and briefly attended St. Dunstan’s University before leaving at the outbreak of the Second World War, to join the Prince Edward Island Highlanders. He later served as an MP in the U.S. Army in 1945- 46. In the interim, he married Clarisse Rose Mercier, who predeceased him in 1999. An avid reader all of his life, he was also a long-suffering fan of the Boston Red Sox, who reminded people that they won their last World Series the year of his birth. He enjoyed hunting and fishing for most of his life. He was a member of St. Athanasius-St. John’s Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, the VFW, and the La Parasseux Snow Shoe Club. Wallace is survived by his children, John (Mary) of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Dr. Roger (Trish) of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Elizabeth Richardson of Bangor, with whom he resided following the death of his wife; grandchildren, Lieutenant Eric MacDonald, Royal Canadian Navy, Victoria, British Columbia, Petty Officer Mark MacDonald USCG, Homer, Alaska, Michelle (Tom) Taylor, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Cheryl (Glen) Friedman, Littleton, Colo., and Brian (Selena) MacDonald, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Teresa Leader of St. Petersburg, Fla. He was also very close to his nephew, Maurice and his wife, Teresa Fraser, of Rumford. He was predeceased by brothers, Eric, Gordon and Father Rupert MacDonald S.S.J.; and son-in-law, James MacArthur. There will be a memorial Mass at St. John’s Church in Bangor in early June.
