PRESQUE ISLE – Chester “Chet” H. Kervin, 86, died peacefully May 3, 2007, at his residence. He was born Aug. 27, 1920, in New Limerick, the son of William J. and Edna M. (Sterritt) Kervin. After graduating from Ricker College in 1937, he moved to Wellsville, N.Y. In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army. After his tour of duty he returned to the U.S. and eventually moved back to Maine. In 1956 he worked on refrigeration at Loring Air Force Base, before starting his own business, Kervin Refrigeration. Chet was instrumental in the building of the large freezers at Potato Service, Inc., Presque Isle, where he worked for 20 years as the refrigeration lead supervisor and engineer, before retiring in 1986. He was very active at the local VFW, becoming a life member. He was predeceased by his wife, Nellie (Huntley) Kervin; and two sons, Kendall G. and Rick E. Kervin. He is survived by a sister, Wilma (Kervin) Hemore of Houlton; a daughter, Carol Cline and her husband, Dale, of Walworth, N.Y.; a son, Daniel Kervin and his wife, Mary, of North Kingstown, R.I.; a stepson, Russell Quimby and his wife, Bonnie, of St. Cloud, Fla.; eight granddaughters and four grandsons. Chet’s wishes were to have no services. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in his memory to the American Heart Association, 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074.
