AUGUSTA – Christina Thompson Houston Dickens, 58, passed away on March 25, 2004, at home surrounded by her loving family. She died peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born Nov. 18, 1945, in Wakefield, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Christie and Beverly Houston, and her stepfather, the late Daniel Drake. She attended South Kingstown High School and JoAnne’s School of Hair Design. A stay at home mom, she was deeply devoted to her husband and family. She was heavily involved with her children in all their activities, including Little League, serving as Den Mother, and volunteered for Parent Teacher Associations at Nash School, Williams School and Hussey School. She also spent time keeping score at basketball games, assisting coaches at cross country meets, and selling Christmas trees to raise funds for the baseball team. In her spare time, she truly enjoyed working with her hands, especially landscaping projects and tending her many flower gardens. An accomplished seamstress, she sewed countless outfits for her grandchildren and elaborate wedding dresses for her daughter-in-law and family friends. Despite the pain from arthritis, she loved to knit baby blankets and created beautiful cross-stitched items for her family. She is survived by her loving husband, John David Dickens (married in 1968); her daughter, Ann-Marie Dickens-Neill and her four children, Christina, David, Alex and Morgan; her son, John Dickens Jr., MD, MPH and his wife, Stephanie; her son, Daniel Dickens and his wife, Angela, and their two children, Kaytlin and Spencer; her brother, Alexander “Sandy” Houston and his wife, Gloria; her sister, Beverly Ann Russell; dear friends, Kathy Parsons, Bonnie Reedy, and Nancy Harakall; also several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the Cancer Care Center, MaineGeneral Medical Center, 6 E. Chestnut St., Augusta, ME 04330.
