BANGOR and WHITING – Christine E. Gilpatrick, 87, passed on peacefully Saturday, June 10, 2006, at a Bangor nursing home. She was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Trescott, the daughter of Charles and Ida McCarty. Christine was a graduate of Lubec High School, Mount St. Vincent’s College, Halifax, Nova Scotia and Washington State Teachers’ College. She loved teaching and began her career in a one-room school in Trescott. She also taught in Pownal and Whiting. The majority of her career was at the Edmunds Consolidated School, retiring in 1978. Christine was a loving mother to her two children and a wonderful Nana to her four grandchildren. Time spent with family was the highlight of her life. She was very active in community affairs. She was a member of the Maine State Teachers’ Association, the Association of Retired Teachers, Lubec Grange, the Whiting Quilting Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and a communicant of the Holy Name Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and knitting. She and her husband, Arthur, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage, spent many enjoyable days square dancing and camping. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur; her sister, Marion; and a sister, Theresa, who died in infancy. Surviving family members include a son, Ivan and his wife, Katherine, of Gouldsboro; a daughter, Jean Martin and her husband, Arlan, of Eddington; grandchildren, Kelly and her husband, Dr. Bheshem Ramlal, of D’Abadie, Trinidad, Jodi Martin of Tucson, Ariz., Aaron Gilpatrick of Gouldsboro, Ryan Martin of Gig Harbor, Wash.; two nieces and many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Machias, with the Rev. Mark Nolette presiding. Private interment will be at Whiting Village Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Whiting Quilting Club Scholarship Fund, care of Carol Grochmal, P.O.
