ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla., and BANGOR – Clarence A. Oldenburg “Burg,” 81, died March 9, 2008, in Tampa, Fla. He was born Sept. 17, 1926, the son of Hershel and Dora (Kennedy) Oldenburg of Easton. Burg was an Aroostook County boy at heart. He graduated from Island Falls High School in June 1944 and entered the U.S. Army in September of 1944, serving in World War II. After the war he graduated from Husson College and then worked for Great Northern Paper Co., for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He spent his retirement winters in Zephyrhills, Fla., where he had a wonderful group of friends who shared their time playing golf, pool and shuffleboard. He was predeceased by his wife, Harriett (Given) Oldenburg, January 2000; and his brother, Preston Oldenburg. Burg is survived by two daughters, Holly Oldenburg Wood of Winchester, Mass., and Bonnie Oldenburg of Arlington, Mass.; son-in-law, George W. Wood IV; grandsons, Geordie and Tyler Wood; two brothers, Robert Oldenburg and his wife, Ada, and Charles “Bill” Oldenburg and his wife, Dorothy (Echo); a sister-in-law, Cora Oldenburg; many beloved nieces and nephews; close family friends and neighbors, David and Nadine Moyse and their two daughters, Brianne and Rachel, who he treated as his granddaughters. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
