GRAND ISLE – Claudette Y. Deschaine, 67, died May 6, 2008, in Van Buren, after a long illness. She was born Sept. 11, 1940, in Blue River, Quebec, the daughter of Lorenzo and Cyrilda (Tanguay) Castonguay. She married Leo Deschaine, April 7, 1973. Mrs. Deschaine was a member of St. Gerard-Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Grand Isle. Mrs. Deschaine was employed as a waitress in Van Buren, worked at Borderview Manor as well as the Van Buren hospital, and was also employed at Potato Service, Presque Isle. Claudette also volunteered many hours at the Grand Isle School. Surviving in addition to her husband, Leo, of Grand Isle are her mother of St. Quentin, New Brunswick; her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Dee Deschaine; her grandson, Trevor, all of Fort Fairfield; 14 brothers, Adrian of South Windsor, Conn., Robert of New Milford, Conn., Pierre, Lionel, Romeo, Ton, Paul, Mack and Renaud, all of St. Quentin, New Brunswick, Daniel of Caraquet, New Brunswick, Come of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Roger of Beloeil, Quebec, Rene of Laval, Quebec, and Andre of St. Hubert, Quebec; and three sisters, Carmen of Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Irene of St. Quentin, New Brunswick, and Adrienne of Terrebonne, Quebec. Mrs. Deschaine was predeceased by her father; and one brother, Claude. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at St. Gerard-Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Grand Isle, with Father James Albert officiating. Friends may visit with the family 9 a.m. until time of services at the church, or after at the luncheon in the parish hall. Interment will be at Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Caribou.
