ELLSWORTH – Clayton J. “Jack” Wallace, 83, died April 13, 2008, at a Brewer health care facility. He was born Sept. 19, 1924, in Tremont, the son of Clayton E. and Cecile V. (Greene) Wallace. Jack was in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, serving in the Pacific theatre as a tail gunner. He owned and operated Wallace Upholstery and Wallace Moving & Storage for more than 30 years. He was a member of Northeast Harbor American Legion, Mount Desert Island Lions Club, former King Lion, Northeast Harbor Lodge No. 208, Scottish Rite-Consistory, Anah Temple Shrine, founding member of Mini Bikes, Ellsworth Elks Club and served on the planning board at Mount Desert. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. He is survived by his companion of nine years, Lorella Schauf; sons, Clayton E. Wallace and wife, Gail, of Ellsworth and Kevin Wallace and wife, Jayne, of Mount Desert; daughters, Carol Hamor and husband, Albert, of Northeast Harbor, Elinor Saunders and husband, Chuck, of Mount Juliet, Tenn., Deanna Wallace, and Debbie and husband, Anthony DeJulio, all of Ellsworth; brother, William Wallace and wife, Lena, of Northeast Harbor; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Jack was predeceased by his wife, Shirley; brothers, Burnham and David; and grandson, Clayton Anthony Wallace-DeJulio. Calling hours will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, at Union Church of Northeast Harbor.
