BELFAST – Clifton E. Ward Jr., 68, died June 16, 2005 at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born Aug. 31, 1936, in Searsport, the son of Clifton Sr. and Sadie (Bailey) Ward. Cliff worked for his father-in-law, Augustus L. Walker, as a foreman and saw filer. He operated his own shingle and box mill for many years. He also tended the ovens at Penobscot Frozen Foods and later retired from Matthews Brothers Company as a production worker. After retiring, he enjoyed tinkering in his metal shop. Cliff is survived by his wife of 50 years, Winnifred E. (Walker) Ward of Belfast; three sons, Delmont and his wife, Darlene, of Belfast, Dale and his wife, Mary, of Belmont, and Dana and his wife, Paula, of Brewer; four grandchildren, Susan, Nancy, Ryan and Michelle. He is also survived by his mother, Sadie (Bailey) Ward of Searsport; seven sisters, Elizabeth Connor of Frankfort, Marie Curtis of Hampden, Phyllis Greenleaf of Brooks, Theresa Connor of Searsport, Marilyn Littlefield of Searsport, Ethel Greenleaf of Montville and Hazel Harvey of Frankfort; three brothers, George of Swanville, Kenneth and Douglas, both of Searsport; many nieces and nephews as well as several good friends. Clifton was predeceased by his father, Clifton E. Ward Sr. in 1978. Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2005, from the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
