WOODLAND – Darrel F. Smith, 56, died unexpectedly Feb. 6, 2008, in Woodland. He was born Feb. 10, 1951, in Caribou, the son of Donald F. and Glenda (Hewitt) Smith. He was a graduate of the Caribou High School, Class of 1969. Darrel farmed in the local area for several years and owned and operated Smith’s Sawmill and Logging. He was a member of National Guard 152nd Field Artillery, Perkins-Plourde Post No. 136 American Legion, Stockholm, a member of Nordic Lakers Snowmobile Club, Caribou Coin Club and was a state officer for Future Farmers of America. Darrel loved spending time at his Square Lake camp and fishing with everyone, especially his loving wife. He had a great love for the woods and cutting feed for his deer, along with woodworking. He really appreciated the friendship and help from best friends, Jeff Cote and Todd Theriault. He loved life and all his friends, especially the neighborhood card parties. Darrel married Barbara (Grant) Smith, July 6, 1985. Surviving in addition to his wife of Woodland and his parents of Caribou, are a stepdaughter, Michele Theriault of Caribou and her son, Tyler Theriault; his father and friend, Todd Theriault of Connor Town-ship; two brothers, Wayne Smith and his wife, Patty, of Woodland and Donald Smith and his wife, Hollis, of Hinckley; two sisters, Carla Brown and her husband, Robert, of Searsport and Donna Hale and her husband, Thomas, of Westmanland; several nieces and nephews; and one aunt, Glenna Langley of Caribou. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, from the chapel of Mockler Funeral Home with the Rev. Anna Beach, pastor of Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
