LUBEC – Darrell D. Copp, 92, died Sept. 12, 2006, at a Jonesport health care facility. He was born March 10, 1914, in East Machias, the son of James and Minnie (Hooper) Copp. He was a graduate of Lubec High School. He then moved to Florida, where he attended various electronic schools, where he gained the knowledge to be employed in the development of radar for the military and was deferred from World War II. He later went to work for American Airlines for more than 29 years until his retirement. While employed away from Lubec, he enjoyed returning home to go fishing and hunting with Clarence Kelley. He is survived by his lifelong companion, Ellen B. Kelley; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Shirley and Lauris Miller and Warren and Brenda Foley. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Velma Colbeth; and three brothers, Chandler, Douglas and Bernard. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the residence of Kathy and James Jones, Route 189, Whiting, where Darrell and Ellen had received care for the past few months. Burial will be held after the service at the Split Hill Cemetery, Lubec, with Pastor Dale Hupp officiating. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the West Lubec Methodist Church, care of Hovey Hall, 783 County Road, Lubec, ME 04652. Arrangements are in the care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
