ORLAND – David G. MacAlpine Jr., 55, formerly of Whitman, Mass., and Halifax, Mass., died suddenly Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at his home. He was the son of Virginia (Nagy) MacAlpine of Exeter, N.H., and Clearwater, Fla., and the late David G. MacAlpine Sr. David was born in Chelsea, Mass., raised and educated in South Weymouth, Mass., and Whitman, Mass. He graduated from Whitman Hanson Regional High School, Class of 1970. David was active in Christian Endeavor at Whitman Congregational Church. He attained the status of a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 59 of Whitman, Mass. David enjoyed sports, especially ice hockey. He took pleasure in riding his motorcycle. He was a stamp and coin collector, and also enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. David worked as a insulator for Local 6 of Boston for 33 years. In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sons, David G. MacAlpine III, Eric R. MacAlpine, both of Halifax, Mass., and Marc R. MacAlpine of Laconia, N.H.; his brother, Craig MacAlpine and his wife, Cindy, of Raymond, N.H.; his sister, Bethe Power of Manchester, N.H.; his granddaughter, Alixandria Hewitt; his nieces and nephews, Bonnie, Ian, Jessica and Tyler, all of New Hampshire; also his many friends in Maine that he thought of as family. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street, Route 58 at the rotary circle, Whitman, Mass. Friends and family are invited to attend his services 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
