HERMON and LAKE WALES, Fla. – Dennis B. Hill lost his short battle with cancer caused by Agent Orange July 1, 2008. He was born June 10, 1945, in Millinocket, the son of Lewis and Marcella (Smith) Hill. He served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1964-1965, in Vietnam. On Memorial Day 2007, Dennis for this first time in a long time, became strong enough to walk the entire parade route with many other Vietnam veterans. At the beginning of the parade, Cole Transportation Museum presented the veterans with a walking stick. Dennis felt that this was one of the proudest moments of his life. Dennis’ courage during his illness has been an inspiration to all his family. He and his wife spent the last two winters enjoying the warm weather in Lake Wales, Fla. He was predeceased by both parents. He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Gerlinde; three sons, Derrick of Deltona, Fla., Erik and his wife, Carla, of Newburgh and Shawn of Carmel; two daughters, Cindy of Lake Wales, Fla., and Nicole Walthers and her husband, Frank Westheim, of Germany; three brothers, Edward Brett of Plymouth, Mass., Richard Brackett and his wife, Linda, of Lakeland, Fla., and Robert and Gloria Jean Hill of Etna; one sister, Sharon and her husband, Randall Grant, of Warren; and three grandchildren, Austin of Florida, Christopher and his sister, Jamie, of Germany. He truly loved his family and loving dog, Sheeba. Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 7, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. In lieu of flowers, any donations may go to Disabled Veterans. Arrangements in care of Central Florida Casket Store and Funeral Chapel, Lakeland, Fla.
