HOULTON – Dennis “Denny” Guy, 54, beloved son, father, grandfather and devoted coach, died Aug. 11, 2006, surrounded by his family, at a Bangor hospital after a long and courageous fight. He was born Jan. 11, 1952, in Houlton, the son of Wendell and Patricia (Downie) Guy. Denny attended Houlton schools and was a 1970 graduate of Houlton High School, and a 1974 graduate of the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He was very athletic, coaching sports at middle and high school level at both SAD No. 29 and SAD No. 70, Houlton Little League and also was an avid Red Sox fan. He loved his animals, his horse, DD; and dogs, Sandy and Harley Earl. Denny was a local area businessman, owning and operating Home Appliance Center for many years, and was an advertising salesman for WHOU. Denny was employed as superintendent of the Houlton Community Golf Course and then as greens keeper at Va Jo Wa Golf Club. He also did substitute teaching at SAD No. 29 and SAD No. 70. He was communicant of Saint Mary’s Church, past member of the Houlton Community Golf Course and a 35-year member of the Houlton Lodge of Elks, where he was the hoop shoot chairman and coordinator, serving in that position for several years. Denny’s best times were spent with family and fishing at the family camp on Brackett Lake. He also enjoyed cooking and gardening. Denny is survived by his parents of Houlton; three children, Michelle Guy Wittine and her children, Megan, Elizabeth and Lindsay, of Corinth, Brandi Guy and her children, Kristopher, Kennedy and Katelyn, of Houlton, Andrew Guy of Montana; two brothers, Tim of Houlton and David and his wife, Jane, of Hodgdon; one sister, Wendy and her husband, Jerry Lynds, of Littleton; three nephews and three nieces; a special aunt, Melody Downie; his four o’clock friends at the Elks club; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Denny’s memory to the Dennis M. Guy Scholarship Fund, care of Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton, ME 04730.
