LUBEC and GROTON, Conn. Dennis Lee Olson, 61, died Oct. 9, 2006, after a long courageous battle with heart disease. Dennis was born May 11, 1945, in Lubec, the son of George and Ina (Bridges) Olson Sr. Dennis attended schools in Lubec where he met his one true love, Ethel Belmont Gerrish “childhood sweethearts.” Dennis answered the call to serve God and country, serving in the U.S. Air Force, leaving Lubec and Ethel. After going separate ways, they both raised families of their own, although never forgetting promises they had made years before. Dennis held many titles in his lifetime, apartment manager, painting contractor, husband, brother and cousin. The title he cherished most was “father,” his family being his joy in life. Dennis was a gentle man, often writing poetry, playing the piano and guitar. He truly loved his dogs, Molly and Blue. He was generous to a fault. Many times he would give away his last dollar and go without so that others would not. He leaves behind eight children, James, Christopher, Jeffery, Garth, Jackie, Denise, Mary and Natalie; several grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (Olson) Morrison and Roberta (Olson) Cantlon; one brother, George Olson; many nieces, nephews and cousins, who were all very special to Dennis. He had been reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Ethel B. Gerrish, who he also leaves behind. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, George and Ina Olson Sr.; one brother and soul mate, Roger W. Olson. A service will be held in Lubec in the spring. There will be “Silent Thunder” until we meet again Dennis D. Arrangements by Impellitteri-Malia, New London, Conn.
