BELFAST – Dianne Marie Dawson Falina, 56, passed away Dec. 26, 2006, at Waldo County General Hospitals Intensive Care Unit, in Belfast, after a period of declining health. She was born in Philadelphia. She was a graduate of Phoenixville Area High School and worked in successively responsible clerical positions with area insurance companies. In 1969, she replied to a letter that appeared in a fan-published magazine, leading to a long time mail correspondence with Peter J. Falina, then of Pawtucket, R.I. She met her future spouse for the first time in Boston, June 1977, attending his graduation ceremony from Wentworth Institute of Technology. She relocated to Rhode Island in fall 1978, and she and Peter were married Aug. 18, 1979, in Providence, R.I. She obtained work at a prestigious Providence law firm, first as a word processor, later in charge of the firm’s data processing operation. A downturn in the firm’s fortunes forced her to look elsewhere for a career, and she achieved a personal goal in training to be a travel agent. She found such work first in Lynn, Mass., and later in Woburn, Mass. The couple established a home in Woburn, Mass., to free her from lengthy commuting. The tragedies of Sept. 11, 2001, forced cutbacks in the travel industry, and Dianne was once more out of work. She accepted a temporary job offer in Woburn, Mass., that was described as 13 weeks, but which stretched out until early fall 2002, when the couple moved to Belfast. Regrettably, her health began to decline some time after the move to Maine, concluding with her passing. She is survived by her spouse, Peter; and by an uncle, George Dawson, who resides in Wantagh, N.Y. At her express wish, no memorial service was held. Please omit cards and flowers. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the animal shelter operated by the Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841 or call 207-594-2200. Dianne considered the shelter a most worthy cause and enjoyed spending time there, “socializing” with cats waiting for adoption. Their informative web site is humanesocietyofknoxcounty.org
