BANGOR – Donald A. Deveau, 70, died peacefully Oct. 12, 2004, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 10, 1934, in Orono, the son of George “Arthur” and Mary (Melanson) Deveau. Donald was a graduate of Orono High School and Beal College. After college he worked in the automotive business in the Bangor area until his retirement in 1993. He was a very proud Marine Corps veteran, a member of the D.A.V. and St. John’s Catholic Church. Donald leaves a legacy of a lifetime of laughter and love, a beautiful family and his wife, Virginia of 49 years, the love of his life. They shared many wonderful times together, raising their family, camping and traveling together. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and his great-grandson, John Jr. He will be remembered as the greatest husband and father. Donald loved the Patriots and was a loyal fan. Surviving are his wife, Virginia R. (Waddell) Deveau of Bangor; two children, Michael A. Deveau of Bangor, Linda S. Deveau-McNally and her husband, David, of Brewer; four grandchildren, Jonathan Deveau of Brewer, Michael Deveau Jr. of Bangor, David McNally Jr. and Joshua McNally, both of Brewer; a great-grandson, Jonathan Deveau Jr. of Allagash; three sisters, Doris Gerrish of Orono, Marjorie Pedley of Lincoln, Thelma Panetta of Massachusetts; three brothers, Roger Deveau of Australia, Gerald Deveau of Hampden and Larry Deveau of Texas; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Cindy Deveau; a grandson, Daniel Deveau; one sister, Margaret Ringer. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Orono. Thanks to New Hope Hospice and Cancer Care of Maine and staff.
