CARIBOU and PORTLAND Donald Amasa Butterfield, 85, died Wed-nesday, Aug. 4, 2004, of lung cancer. Donald was born Sept. 8, 1918, in Woodland (Aroostook County), the son of Amasa M. and Ruevilla C. (Parker) Butterfield. He attended schools in Woodland and Washburn. He served in the Maine National Guard and the U.S. Army during and before World War II. He continued in the active Army Reserve until his retirement in 1966. Donald was a life member of the ROA and VFW. He retired from federal employment at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, on Dec. 7, 1979. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Donovan Butterfield; and a sister, Ella E. Burns. He is survived by two sons, Donald A. Butterfield Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Clinton and Christopher T. Butterfield and his wife, Roberta “Robbi,” of Portland. Also surviving is a sister, Audrey Briggs Alderman and her husband, Hal, of Poway, Calif.; five grandchildren, Heather, Shannon, Jeffrey, Jason and Forrest (Gerry); as well as several great-grandchildren. It was the request of Donald that there be no formal funeral service. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Perham. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice of Maine volunteers for their support during this most difficult time.
