HAMPDEN and WATERVELIET, N.Y. – Donald passed away June 4, 2005, surrounded by much of his family following a long illness. He was born July 24, 1929, and raised in Waterveliet, N.Y. He entered the Naval Reserve following high school and then served in the Army in Germany during the Korean War era. He married Alice Ferguson Muth of Cohoes, N.Y. in 1954. They were married 45 years and had eight children. He lived for the past 33 years in Hampden and worked at Penobscot Shoe Company for 20 years. He served the community in several way including as a Sunday school teacher, Boy Scout leader, Hampden Town councilor, VFW Post No. 4633 of Hampden post commander, volunteer at the Masonic Learning Center, Penobscot Valley Council of Government and most recently as the chair of the Hampden Veterans Honor Roll Committee. He enjoyed stamp and coin collecting as well as gardening. He had a green thumb for raising African Violets and was a master gardener. He loved horses and adopted two mustangs, Mooney and Babe, and saw them develop into well trained mounts. He will be missed by his faithful dog and constant companion: Barney. His greatest accomplishment was to raise seven children to be appreciative, honest, hard working and good citizens. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice Ferguson Muth; daughter, Lynette Muth; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Wood Muth. He is survived by his children, Donald C. Muth Jr., James E. Muth, William J. Muth, John C. Muth, Allison Muth Berube, Andrea Muth Esty and Sandra Muth Gifford. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Siler of Seneca, Pa. He is also survived by his sons-in-law, Georges Berube, Jason Esty and Kevin Gifford; and daughters-in-law, Donna Bulger and Carolyn Dorrity. He was the grandfather of Joshua Muth, Jeremy Muth, Meghan Muth, Jamie Lee Muth, K.C. Dorrity, Isaac Dorrity, Erin Esty, Craig Esty, Gabrielle Berube and Lilianne Berube. He was the uncle to many nieces and nephews in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Georgia. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held noon Wednesday, with the Rev. Mark Fowler, pastor of the Church of the Open Door of Hampden, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.
