MACHIAS – Donald E. Caler, 73, passed away, May 25, 2005, at a Brewer health care facility after an extended illness. He was born May 5, 1932, in Machias, the son of the late Merrill and Eva (Hatt) Caler. Donald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at American Cyanamid in Connecticut for 10 years in the shipping department before returning to Machias in 1971. Donald was an avid country music fan and enjoyed playing pool. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jeanie (Pettegrow) Caler; two uncles, Thurman Hatt and wife, Irene, of Connecticut, and Irving Hatt and wife, Edna, of Machias; sister-in-laws, Doris Jordan and husband, Donald, of Machias, Judith Nutter and husband, Robert, of East Machias, and Charlene Rowe and her daughter, Maryanne, of Caribou; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias, officiated by Michael Emery Hatt. Burial will follow at Longfellow Cemetery, Machias.
