BAR HARBOR – Donald E. Fricke, 88, died Feb. 7, 2006, at Birch Bay in Bar Harbor. He was born July 26, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Dr. Louis T. and Martha (Annyl) Fricke. He was educated in public schools and later graduated from the New York College of Music as a voice major, where he met his wife of 52 years, Eleanor, who predeceased him in 2002. He moved to Birch Bay Village in 2002 and made many friends in the area and will be missed by all, especially his friend of 40 years, Beth Bradshaw. Donald spent several years touring with opera companies and concretized with an Operatic Quartet. In addition, he was soloist in numerous churches in the tri-state area, (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) and sang most of the standard oratorio repertoire. He and his wife maintained a music studio, teaching piano and voice. He served from 1942-1945 as a sergeant with the 11th Air Force in the Aleutian Islands during World War II and was honorably discharged. Donald also worked as a manager for banks in Rockland County, N.Y. and retired as a vice president from Barclays Bank of New York. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Church of Our Father in Hulls Cove with the Rev. Chuck Bradshaw officiating. Donald will be buried alongside his wife in Frederick Loecher Veterans Cemetery, Pamona, N.Y.
