PRESQUE ISLE – Donald “Harley” W. Lockhart, 89, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at a Mars Hill nursing home. He was born March 28, 1919, in Westfield, the son of Wesley and Bertha (Gee) Lockhart. Harley served his country in the U.S. Army, during World War II in the European Theatre. Harley worked for many years at the state farm in the research department, where new potatoes were developed. He was a member of Grant Memorial Methodist Church and was a person who cared for others being a member of Presque Isle Search and Rescue. In years past, Harley also enjoyed being an active member of the Presque Isle CB Club. He is survived by a son, Alan Cleaves and his wife, Patty, of Presque Isle; a daughter, Sherry Cleaves of West Palm Beach, Fla; two stepsons, Duane Cleaves and his wife, Gail, of Brooksville, Fla., and Bill Cleaves of Presque Isle; five stepdaughters, Lillian Nibby of Presque Isle, Lillias Nightingale of Raymond, Marlene Cleaves of Brooksville, Fla., Diana Farnum and her husband, Bruce, of Weld, and Mary Holms of Durham, Conn.; three sisters, Mary Lockhart and Reta Kinney, both of Westfield and Thelma Cox of Florenceville, New Brunswick; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis; and two brothers, Leo and Charlie Lockhart. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle, with Pastor Doug Taubin officiating.
