ELLSWORTH – Donald L. Allen, 77, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at his home in Ellsworth, surrounded by his family. He was born June 27, 1928, in Brooklin, the son of Forrest F. and Emma (Horton) Allen Sr. Donald served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a mechanic by trade and worked on vehicles for many years before going to work for D.W. Small & Sons in the late 1960’s. Donald continued to work when the company became Irving Oil, and he traveled all over the state installing and maintaining gasoline pumps; he was very well known in the industry for his work. Donald retired from Irving in 1990. His favorite pastime was riding to Brooklin and visiting with relatives and friends. Donald is survived by his wife of 54 years, Roberta (Staples) Allen, of Ellsworth; two daughters, Deborah Tucker and her husband, James, of Corinna and Teresa Pinkham and her husband, Harrison, of Lamoine; four grandchildren, Adam Gabriel Hastings of West Springfield, Mass., Jesse Donald Hastings, Joni Emma Pinkham, both of Ellsworth and Ryan Allen Pinkham of Lamoine; four siblings, Forrest F. Allen Jr. and his wife, Leah, and Harriet Bissett and her husband, Walter, all of Ellsworth, Lawrence Allen and his wife, Eva and Ethel Gott and her companion, Chester Webber, all of Brooklin; and many very close nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Donald was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, William and Lowell Allen. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, with the Rev. Emily Taylor officiating.
