WHITING and BREWER – Donald L. Gardner Sr., 61, died April 24, 2007, at a Bangor hos-pital. He was born June 1, 1945, in Machias, the son of Waverly H. and Lucy A. (Ackley) Gardner. Donald graduated from Washington Academy, Class of 1964. After his graduation he joined the Army. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the American Legion Post No. 9, and the I.O.O.F. of Pembroke. He was an avid outdoorsmen and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Donald was predeceased by his wife, Betty (McVicar); a son, Donald Leroy Jr.; his parents; and his brothers, Lewis, Warren and Harold. He leaves three sons, Gary and Mark of Lincoln and Thomas and his wife, Heather, of Alachua, Fla.; three grandchildren, David, Noelle and Zackary; two sisters, Elizabeth G. Curtis and husband, Myron, of Edmunds and Christine G. Small of East Machias; sister-in-law, Winifred Gardner of Meridan, Conn.; many nieces and nephews. Donald’s family extends their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at Brewer Rehabilitation and Living Center and Eastern Maine Medical Center for all the love and kind care given to Donald. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Downeast Baptist Church, Machias. Burial will be at East Machias Village Cemetery.
