CARMEL and NEWPORT – Dorcas Carsley Rogers, 79, died peacefully Jan. 18, 2006, at a Pittsfield healthcare facility after a long illness. She was born Dec. 8, 1926, in Dexter, the daughter of Fred R. and Mary (Bowen) Carsley. Dorcas graduated from Newport High School and Husson College in Bangor. She was a member of the Phi Rho Zeta Sorority and the Professional Women’s Business Club. She was employed for Prudential Insurance Co., retiring as office manager in 1983. She loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and gardening. She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, E. James Rogers, who died in February 1994. She is survived by her brother, Dale Carsley of Newport; three nephews, Shawn of Jacksonville Fla., Kerry and his wife, Angela, of Newport, Jay and his wife, Tatiana, of Newport. Also surviving her is her stepsons, Charles and Peter; daughter-in-law, Donna; and three granddaughters, Jennifer, Christina and Rhonda. Dorcas will be missed by her many friends, who are much loved and appreciated. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 34 High St., Newport. Committal services will be conducted in the spring, at the family lot in Snow’s Corner Cemetery, Hermon, at a time and date to be announced.
