EXETER – Doreen Loretta (Young) Glidden, 72, graduated from this world to Glory Jan. 22, 2005, peacefully at her home after a long courageous illness. She was born May 24, 1932, at Houlton, a daughter of Albert and Genevieve (Beattie) Young. She attended Patten schools and proudly received her high school diploma after completing Adult-Ed classes. She moved many times, finally settling in Exeter to raise her children. She cut seed, picked potatoes, (starting at age 6 to help buy clothes for the cold winters), and then worked on potato harvesters many times for area farmers. Doreen’s bag was always packed and she was ready to go at a moment’s notice for a trip to anywhere. She loved sightseeing the country, near or far, and checking out a new restaurant was a favorite pastime. She loved doing crafts, especially quilting, knitting, crocheting and plastic canvas work. Blessing others with big or small items was a great satisfaction to her. She also enjoyed taking several children into her home through the years, with the Foster-Parent Program. Doreen was a member of the Exeter Full Gospel Church for more than 40 years, faithfully attending and playing her tambourine to her favorite fast songs. She is survived by several children; a daughter, Vernelia D.
