NEWPORT – Doreen (Olsson) Curtis, 67, died April 7, 2006, at a Pittsfield hospital after a long illness. She was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Woodland, Washington County, the daughter of Harold and Dorothy (Scott) Olsson. She was educated in Woodland schools. Doreen had been employed at Forrest Yarns in Newport for a few years and then she worked at Dexter Shoe Co. in Newport until her retirement due to ill health. She enjoyed long rides in the countryside and attending the state fairs. She was an avid Bingo player always looking forward to her Bingo nights. Doreen is survived by her loving companion of 19 years, Wayne F. Steward of Newport; one daughter, Rita L. Curtis of Newport; three sons, George W. Curtis Jr. of Newport, Fred and his wife, Denise Curtis, of Newport, Kenneth and his wife, Brenna Curtis, of Plymouth; one sister, Grace M. Dodge of Detroit; nine grandchildren, George III, Brandon, Brittany, Bridget, Amber, Ryan, Nick, Craig and Danielle. She was predeceased by her parents; and an infant daughter, Barbara Marie. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 34 High St., Newport. Private graveside services will be conducted later in the spring at the Detroit Village Cemetery.
