FRANKLIN and BAR HARBOR – Dorothy A. (Butler) Smith, 77, died May 16, 2004, at a Bar Harbor hospital. She was born Oct. 4, 1926, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Leo and Clara (Liscomb) Butler. Dorothy worked at Jackson Lab for 36 years. She enjoyed spending time at Donnell’s Pond and was especially fond of nature. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and spending hours with her dog, DJ. She is survived by her husband, Myron Smith of Franklin; one daughter, Joanne Driscoll of Otter Creek; two sons, John Driscoll and his wife, Judith, of Otter Creek, Joey Smith and his wife, Tina, of Franklin; one sister, Louise Butler of Otter Creek; two brothers, Everett Butler and companion, Marilyn Peterson, of Northeast Harbor, Earl Butler of Otter Creek; two grandchildren, Amber and Johna Driscoll; two great-grandchildren; special friends, Martha Buzzell, Liz Libby, Cookie Merchant; Marilyn O’Brien, and Kathy Seavey. Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Frederick Driscoll; and sister, Pauline Wescott. Private graveside services will be held with the Rev. Mac Bigelow officiating. Memorial gifts may be made in Dorothy’s name to the Jackson Laboratory Employee Relief Endowment Fund, care of Lance McMasters, 600 Main St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609. Arrangements are by Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor.
