STONINGTON – Dorothy G. Judkins, 93, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, surrounded by her family at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. Dorothy was born Jan. 10, 1910, in Stonington, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Stewart) Murphy. She was a graduate of Stonington High School. She received her teaching certificate from Gorham Normal School, a BA in education and masters degree in library sciences from the University of Maine at Orono. Dorothy began her teaching career in one-room school houses in Oceanville and Burnt Cove. She concluded her teaching career teaching kindergarten at Granite Street school in Millinocket, retiring in 1972. Dot often talked of her travels throughout Europe and was exceptionally proud of her Irish heritage. She was an accomplished bridge player and is remembered fondly by her bridge partners and good friends, Lucia Donovan, Patsy Poitras, Kay Colwell and Jane McCormick. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, David Judkins, in 1948. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Colson and her husband, Don, of Stonington; three grandchildren, Michelle Colson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Craig Colson and his wife, Lanie, and Dorothy’s great-granddaughter, Lydia of Old Town, and Matthew Colson and his wife, Sara, and great-grandsons, Thomas and Benjamin, and brand new great-grand-daughter, Elizabeth of Derry, N.H. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Main St., Stonington.
