OLD TOWN – Dorothy M. Stanley passed away early Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at home surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 15, 1908, in Winterport, the daughter of Frank P. and Mary (O’Hearn) Foley, who predeceased her. Dorothy was raised in Winterport and graduated from Winterport High School, Class of 1927. She worked for several seasons as a waitress at the Seaside Inn in Seal Harbor, where she met her late husband of 46 years, Richard L. Stanley. Together they moved to Old Town in 1934, where Dick was a funeral director for many years. Dorothy was a member of the Neeburban Club and active in civic affairs. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her son, Robert D. Stanley and his wife, Carol, of Old Town; daughter, Patricia A. Wheelden of Old Town; three grandchildren, Andrea Stanley Hester and her husband, Chris, of Alexandria, Va., Dana M. Stanley and his wife, Amy, of Kensington, Md. and Jeffery Wheelden and his wife, Angela, of Milford; four great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Jonathan and Ella Stanley, all of Kensington, Md. and Liam Wheelden of Milford; as well as several special nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A graveside committal service will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Winterport.
