HANCOCK – Dorothy Mae Gatcomb, 77, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at a Bar Harbor health care facility. A lifelong resident of Hancock, she was born there, April 14, 1929, the daughter of the late George “Lester” and Martha N. (Marshall) Kief. She was a member of the Girl Scout committee, when Paula and Freda were in Girl Scouts. She was also a den mother, when George was a Cub Scout. She belonged to the Hancock Women’s Club and was president for a year, later becoming an honorary member. Mrs. Gatcomb was treasurer for the Hillcrest Cemetery, Hancock, for more than 10 years. Dot and her husband, Austin, enjoyed traveling in their motor home and spending time with family. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Austin Harding Gatcomb. She is survived by four children, Paula McFarland and husband, Jim, George Gatcomb and wife, Maria, Freda Finch and Brenda Gatcomb; stepson, Dewey Gatcomb and his wife, Marsha; stepson, Kenneth Gatcomb and wife, Maria; grandchildren, Kim Mul-doon, Tina Rodrigues, Dawn Giangregorio, Monica Gero-gianna and Austin Gatcomb; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Evelyn Jones; brother-in-law, Morrill Jones, many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Hancock, with the Rev. Paula McFarland officiating. Close relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
