OLD TOWN – Dorothy N. (Scott) Yerxa, 79, wife of the late Maynard L. Yerxa, died peacefully Oct. 23, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Patten, a daughter of Elmer Lee and Ruby (Slipp) Scott. She spent many of her early years on a farm in Patten before moving to Milford where she met her childhood sweetheart, Maynard. They married in 1947 and enjoyed 49 wonderful years together. She graduated from Old Town High School in 1945 and began her career with the U.S. Postal Service when she was 17. She worked at the Milford Post Office for 40 years, where she served the last eight years as the postmaster of Milford, before retiring in 1985. Dot loved to travel, bowl, play cards and games and tell jokes. Her tole painting and needlework were admired by all. She spent 51 summers at her camp on Boyd Lake. She loved to get out and socialize with her many wonderful friends. Her favorite times were with family, whether it be birthday parties, shopping, holidays, or just sharing a meal. She was member a National Association of Postal Workers, Pine Tree Snowmobile Club, Milford Congregational Church, and the Ladies Aid. She was especially proud of her three grandchildren and enjoyed many hours having fun with them. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Thornton and her husband, Tommy; three grandchildren, Nicole Madden and her husband, Derek, Toby Thornton and his companion, Melanie and her son, Justin, Lee Thornton and his companion, Brittany; a sister-in-law, Rita Yerxa; many wonderful close friends, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Maynard in 1996; a son, Stanley Lee; and a sister, Virginia Parks. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Congregational Church of Milford, with the Rev. Patricia Moore officiating. Immediately after the service, all are invited to the church undercroft for a light luncheon and continued fellowship. Private interment services will be at Lawndale Cemetery.
