MACHIAS – Douglas G. Wood passed away at home, Oct. 25, 2005, surrounded by his family. Douglas was born Aug. 31, 1928, in Machiasport, the son of Bert Sr. and Vida Wood. He married Rita Gagnon, Dec. 26, 1949. Douglas spent many years living and working in Massachusetts until he moved “home” in 1966. He worked as a lobster fisherman until his retirement in 1973. He loved hunting, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doug is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rita; his children, Linda Dowling of Havelock, N.C., Karen Fullmer and Michael of East Machias, Joseph Wood and Florence of East Machias; his grandchildren, Joseph Dowling of Havelock, N.C., Jodi Sprague and Mark of Machiasport, Jessica Wood and Matt of Machiasport; his great-grandchildren, Dillon Dowling, Mark and Garret Sprague, Joseph Day and Chloe Carr; his sister, Virginia Flynn; brothers, Bert Jr., Roland Gleason and Darrell. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Barbara Pettegrow; brothers, Hollis and Elwyn. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
