EASTPORT – Dr. Frank Delbert Lawler, 100, died April 15, 2006, at an Eastport nursing home. Dr. Lawler was born July 18, 1905, in Eastport, son of the late Daniel and Patience (Wentworth) Lawler. He graduated from Shead Memorial High School, Class of 1924, Washington Normal School, Gorham Normal School, University of Maine in 1933, University of Connecticut in 1946, and received his doctorate in education from Calvin Coolidge of Boston in 1958. Frank was a teacher, principal and superintendent-of-schools in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be remembered as a good friend, dedicated concerned educator, a faithful Christian, a loyal Mason AF & AM and a kind and honorable man. Born and raised in Eastport, he tried to return as often as he could. Dr. Lawler will be loved and missed by those whose lives he touched. Surviving are his loving wife of more than 75 years, Arlene (Wardwell) Lawler of Eastport; two sons, Frank Dale Lawler and wife, Edith, of Indiana and Jimmy Lawler and wife, Joanne, of Louisville, Ky.; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Timothy and James “Alex” Lawler, Patricia Doggendorf and husband, Bill, Nancy Scanlon and husband, Joe, and Mil Lawler and wife, Laura; and a great-grandson, Jude Lawler. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hillside Cemetery in Eastport with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home.
