SURRY and ELLSWORTH – Dr. Horace H. Gould, 93, died Oct. 9, 2004, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born May 4, 1911, at Bucksport, the son of Horace L. and Lenora (Emerson) Gould. He graduated from E.M.C. Seminary in Bucksport and attended the University of Maine in Orono. He also graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia in 1935, and practiced dentistry in Blue Hill and later in Ellsworth, retiring in 1976. He was a veteran of World War II with service in the Pacific-Asiatic area earning the rank of Lt. Cmdr., U.S.N.R. Horace was a past Master of the Ira Berry Lodge of Masons in Blue Hill; a member of Blanquefort Commandary of Ellsworth and Anah Temple Shrine, of Bangor. He was a past president of the Ellsworth Lions Club and of the Surry Garden Club; a member of Surry Community Improvement Association and served on the Surry Planning Board for nine years. He was also a member of the United Baptist Church of Ellsworth. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and gardening. Horace is survived by a son, Dr. Robert P. Gould and wife, Nancy, of Skowhegan; and a daughter, Nancy Stenger and husband, Rocky, of Gouldsboro; two stepdaughters, Judie Skofield and Jeri Mullin; seven grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren, two great- great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two wives, Mamree (Fraser) Gould in 1953, and Thelma (Stanley) Gould in 2001; a sister, Mildred Hallowell; a brother, Dr. Philip Gould; and two grandsons, Robert Gould and Kirk MacGregor. A Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m., Friday. Oct. 15, 2004, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Private interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth.
