BANGOR and BREWER – Earl F. Tonini, 69, died Jan. 12, 2007, at his daughter’s home in Brewer. He was born April 26, 1937, in Pittsfield, Mass., the son of J. Richard Tonini and Mabel G. (Rushbrook) Tonini of Richmond, Mass., and Holden. Earl attended public schools in Massachusetts and graduated from the Vocational Training program at Pittsfield High School, Pittsfield, Mass., in 1956. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, for more than six years, receiving an honorable discharge in 1963. He was a Boy Scout as a young man and later served as advisor for Explorer Post No. 23, Eddington. He was a long-time employee of R. Leon Williams Lumber Co., Clifton, where he worked as an equipment operator, sawyer, welder, heavy equipment mechanic and millwright. He was an expert welder and had an intense interest in heavy construction equipment, hunting, sport shooting, and building and repairing firearms. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Shirley Tonini of Bangor; and former wife, Jean Tonini-Gray of Bucksport. Surviving are his children, Richard Tonini of Bucksport, Dianne Avery of Brewer and Maryann Pomeroy of Levant; grandchildren Amanda, Nicole, Stephanie, Daniel and Hope; his brothers, Leon R. Tonini of San Francisco and David R. Tonini of Holden; several stepchildren and an extended family who will miss him, especially Michael Chambers of Bangor; and a very close friend, Calvin Philbrook of Eddington. Earl requested that no formal ceremony be held.
