BRIDGEWATER – Earl L. Ackerson, 85, died Aug. 10, 2004, at a Houlton health care facility. He was born May 11, 1919, in Mars Hill, the son of John L. and Pearl (Steeves) Ackerson. He attended school in Mars Hill graduating from A.C.I. in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946. After being discharged he was employed at various workplaces. He then moved to Smyrna in 1954, where he was engaged in farming until 1969. After ending his own potato farming, he was a laborer for the rest of his working life. Surviving him is his wife of 52 years, Eldora (Harris) Ackerson of Bridgewater; two sons and their families, Perley and Nancy Ackerson of Windsor, Conn., and their daughters, Amanda and Kate; the Rev. James and Debbie Ackerson of Presque Isle and their children, Nathan, Kristin, Laurin and Erin; a brother, John Ackerson of Mars Hill; a brother-in-law, Archie Boyd of Mars Hill and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Boyd. Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Duncan Funeral Home, Main Street, Mars Hill. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Vaughn officiating. Interment will be in Smith Cemetery in Bridgewater.
