PROSPECT HARBOR – Earle C. Cowperthwaite Sr., 69, died July 5, 2004, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born March 25, 1935, in Prospect Harbor, the son of Covert E. Cowperthwaite and Gladys Moore C. Preble. Earle attended Winter Harbor High School. He cut wood and worked at his grandfather, Irving Moore’s Saw Mill; lobster fished, was a store clerk and worked 22 years at Stinson Factory. He is survived by his mother, Gladys C. Preble of Milbridge; four sons, Earle Jr. of Prospect Harbor, Kenny and his wife, Kathy, of West Gould-sboro, Richard and his wife, Nancy, of Gouldsboro and Bryon of Bristol, Conn.; three brothers, Irving and wife, Diane, of Birch Harbor, Shelton and his wife, Joyce of Gouldsboro, Lawrence Preble of Ellsworth; two sisters, Ella C. and her husband, Sherman Merchant of Prospect Harbor, Mary Anne and her husband, Lester Ring, of Eddington; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Lottie, of 49 years in 2002; and father, Covert in 1965.
