BELFAST – Eben Charles “Chuck” Sawyer III, 77, of Belfast passed away after a brief illness Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at the Veterans Hospital at Togus. He was born July 13, 1927, in Carthage, N.Y. the son of Warren and Lena (Balou) Sawyer. He served with the United States Navy during World War II. Chuck retired from St. Regis Paper Co. and was an avid sportsman and loved fly fishing. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marion (VanEpps) Sawyer; a daughter, Judy Pendergast and husband, James, of Belfast; two sons, Eben Sawyer IV and wife, Patricia, of Stockton Springs, and Tom Sawyer of Vinalhaven; a brother, John Sawyer of Great Bend, N.Y.; a sister, Jeanette Cross of Watertown, N.Y.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
