CARIBOU – Edith Knowlton Milton completed her life’s journey Feb. 7, 2004, at Caribou. She was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Caribou, to the late John and Isabel Knowlton. She was the sister to the late Frank Knowlton of Massachusetts, the late Marie Currie, the late Edward Knowlton and the late Myra Knowlton, all of Caribou. She was the loving wife of 59 years to the late Keith Milton. Edith was a doting mother to her children, Ruth and husband, Ted Pierson, of Otis, Michael and wife, Hallie, of South Portland, Barbara and husband, Stephen Scott, of Caribou and Lynn and husband, Gary See, of Massachusetts. Edith also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, John O’Dea and wife, Melissa, of Richmond, Jacqueline and husband, David Smallwood, of Holden, Robert O’Dea of California, Maryanne Milton and fianc‚, Todd Aldrich, of New Hampshire, Michael Scott and wife, Melissa, of Caribou, Katherine Scott, and Meghnn Scott, both of Caribou, Danielle See, Taylor See and Devon See, all of Massachusetts; great-grandchildren, David and Rihan Smallwood and their sister arriving in April; a former son-in-law, John O’Dea, of Connecticut; brother-in-law, Chester Milton and his wife, Mary; sisters-in-law, Regina Knowlton, and Arlene Milton; many nieces and nephews, and dear friends. Edith graduated from the Aroostook State Normal School and received her B.S. Degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She taught school for 36 years, 32 of those in the Caribou Public School System, until her retirement in 1985. She was a true educator who touched the lives of many of Caribou’s youth. Edith was a member of the Henry B. Pratt post 15 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Lister Knowlton Post 9389 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Gold Star Mothers and sisters as well as being a member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church. Edith enjoyed traveling, books, bingo, and was an avid supporter of the Caribou High School teams as well as the Celtics and Red Sox. Edith was a wonderful wife and mother who taught us three valuable life lessons, that the love of family surpasses all other, that children are indeed a gift and that the coffee pot should always be on. She will be deeply missed. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, from the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynne Josselyn, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Milton may do so through the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s.
